A Very Brave Grandma

I blogged about going to San Diego for our anniversary, but did I mention who came over and watched all the children for five days?  My mom flew out from Oregon and stayed here, keeping everyone safe and happy.  My mom is a 75 year-old widow, and I have to say I'm quite proud of her for taking on such a venture!  Many times in our home it's a lot like playing 'Whack-a-Mole'.  You get one thing taken care of, and up pops something else! But she managed to keep them all fed and played many many games with them along the way.  She also managed to have a very interesting diaper story, but I won't post that here.
When we flew in from California on Thursday, I asked her if she'd like the next day to spend by herself.  She emphatically said, 'yes!' and we didn't see her until Saturday. But she was back in the ring after that, and we had a very nice time, even through the moving process and and living with only 1 car for 12 people.  And at the end of it all, she took the younger ones to Chuck E. Cheese and Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, just for fun.
Michael Jude was underwhelmed with Chuck E.'s, until his lunch arrived.

 Cashing in all those tickets!

Watching the hot doughnuts get a bath in glaze.  Mmmm...

  1. How wonderful, Erica! God bless your wonderful marriage! Scott and I are having our 20th this year too! My plan is to stop nursing by Christmas so that we can actually go "somewhere" (anywhere:)! It will be the first time in almost 13 years that I have not be pregnant or nursing (not a single day:)! And it will be the first time just the two of us since our honeymoon! Sounds exciting and a bit sad too! I know you understand! Praying blessings on your upcoming move! I'm assuming you found a home. Can't wait to see pictures! Love, Kimberly

  2. So good to hear from you, friend! We went away last fall as well, but took the baby. I love taking the babies with me, but really this trip to San Diego was so much more restful without. I actually got to stop and smell the roses and read an entire book and sleep in with no responsibilities whatsoever. I took TWO hot baths in the hugest tub ever. People always tell me I need to take a vacation, but I don't. I highly recommend going alone with Scott. Get a good sitter so you won't worry. Stay more than a night or two. And don't call home. Just rest and play and eat out and get filled up. There's my two cents worth.
And yes, we put an offer on a house and are in process of having it inspected. I'm really excited about it. We are due to close on our house July 2!
Love you and would love to talk soon!
